PETROLEUM STORAGE AND IT'S STORAGE LIFE

Just like other necessities, Petroleum and various other oils have also become daily in our lives. For example, we use fossil fuels on our daily basis to  run our vehicles and to power our electric generators.

But the point to focus here is that these petroleum products are  highly flammable and volatile substances in nature and can prove to be very dangerous if not handled  carefully. Substances  like these should be stored, handled and disposed of properly (in a legal way) to avoid any potentially hazardous situations. There are regulations and guidelines set by government authorities handling common fuels and oils in a safe way

If products like gasoline come in direct contact with your skin, wash with soapy water immediately to avoid any skin irritation.

Never smoke or light a match near petroleum storage tanks or the gasoline because it evaporates easily and is highly inflammable.

You should only use petrol. Never use petrol in any kerosene heaters or lamps and never mix it with diesel because such things should only be used for its intended purpose, which is as a motor fuel

How to store Petrol?

As far as the storage of petroleum is concerned, fast engineers & fabricators suggest that it should always be kept and stored at room temperature, away from all heat sources, including the sun or a water heater. Other points to keep in mind while handling petrol are that the tank lid is tightly sealed to avoid spillages; fill these types of substances only in an approved fuel can or tank and make sure to leave some room in the container to allow for expansion; store it is in a detached shed or garage away from any ignition sources.

How long can petrol be stored?

The time period for which petrol can be stored varies with how it is stored because petrol is a mixture of many components with different properties that contribute to the performance of the fuel. For example,When petrol is kept in an open container fully  exposed to the air, it will - in no time - completely evaporate. Petrol, when in sealed containers, can be stored for around one year but once a seal is broken the fuel has a storage life of six months at 20°C or three months at 30°C. When stored in equipment tanks the storage life is one month. In contrast, storing diesel fuel is much easier just by keeping it cool and dry. Under ideal conditions, diesel can be stored for up to 12 months.
